RSPB staff and volunteers will be on hand at the end of Southport Pier to show visitors the spectacular birdlife of the Ribble Estuary. Thousands of dunlins, oystercathers, redshanks and curlews are beginning to arrive back from their Arctic breeding grounds and use the sandbanks out from Southport Beach as feeding and roosting areas.
Graham Clarkson, 'RSPB Aren’t Birds Brilliant!’ Project Officer, said: "the Ribble Estuary and Sefton Coast are internationally important for birds. Visitors to Southport pier are always amazed and inspired by the number and variety of birds feeding out on the sands".
Graham and the ‘RSPB Aren’t Birds Brilliant!’ team will be at Southport Pier on August, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th from 1pm to 4.30pm with binoculars and telescopes on hand to show visitors birds.
