Barry McCarthy and Simon Jackson texted me yesterday afternoon while seawatching off Formby Point when they had juv Sabine's Gull flying south and the more expected manxies.
With the wind still gusting, it may be worth checking the mouth of the Mersey from New Brighton today _ like Leach's Petrels, Sabs often take shelter upriver, before mooching out towards the open sea the next day....and they usually head out on the Wirral side.
The pec sand was still at Martin Mere and Mr Lightbulb-Head, or a male red crested pochard for the more formally minded, was at Pennington Flash.
Elsewhere ten buzzards were counted going south through Marshside last Sunday, presumably migrants (after I left clearly, 'cos Jellyhead, Tropical and I only had one), and there was greenshank, green sandpiper and the regular little egret there too.
Angela Hargreaves had ten clouded yellow butterflies at the north end of Southport's Marine lake a fortnight or so ago, and also has black darter coming to a garden pond in Scarisbrick.
With a good blow for the last few days, something may well turn up _ have a good Bank Holiday weekend.
