RSPB birdwatching cruise

Posted by on September 2, 2005 6:03 AM |

Richard Smith, of www.deeestuary.co.uk fame (great site) e-mailed after a day on the briny on the Mersey Ferry birding cruise yesterday.

"1 Osprey, 1 Mediterranean Gull, c50 Kittiwake, c4 Arctic Skua, 1 Great
Skua, 1 Guillemot and 1 Little Gull seen from today's Mersey Ferry
Birdwatching cruise out in to Liverpool Bay, also 1 Cockatiel at Pier Head!," Richard reports.
The osprey flew south across the river mouth apparently at about 1pm _ which would expplain why all the gulls went ape around that time in the Old Hall Street/waterfront area.
Not a bad bag for a day in Liverpool Bay, although I suspect there may be trouble getting the cockatiel past the county recorders.
There's another chance to go out on the birdwatching cruise later this month, for details, go to my earlier posting about it....
With barred warbler, wryneck and melodious warbler on Bardsey yesterday, autumn is really with us...
Don't forget "country matters" in the Daily Post tomorrow, when we'll be looking at an intriguing site in West Lancs (no, it's not Martin Mere or Mere Sands...)
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
