Muchas gracias to Ray Wilson and Steve Evans who sent me these pics of the Torness Paddyfield Warbler ....

The first two pictures by Ray show how the bird may initially have been confused by others with Dusky or even Booted Warblers _ the bird's posture looks much more rounded and compact compared to the angular weirdo that Steve caught on video.

Steve's shots show the striking vireo like head pattern that blew me away on Saturday quite clearly, but this series of pictures proves how different a bird can look depending on its posture, actions, weather, light etc etc.
Thanks again for the pictures guys _ you can see all their shots at www.surfbirds.com and Ray has his own website gallery at www.raywilsonbirdphotography.co.uk
Locally a few long eared owls are already back at the roost at Marton Mere, Blackpool apparently, and driving into the bowels of Lancashire to Coppull yesterday evening with the Missus, I saw a few feeding flocks of Fieldfare and Redwings _ but there are more decent hedgerows round there than we have.
Short eared owl has been reported at Marshside, but they're easier at Parkgate these days....unless we have another good winter for the vole catchers on the marsh.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
