The Lancashire Bird Report for 2004 is out now at all the usual places (Martin Mere, Marshside etc etc) for £6.
Worth every penny, this year's report has the Skippool great Knot on the front in all its blotchy splendour.

Apart from the systematic list, there are papers on the three firsts for Lancs and North Merseyside last year - the Semi P Sand, the aforementioned Great Knot and the Leighton Moss Penduline Tit.
The Skem Chiffchaff, northern Bullfinches and an increase in cetaceans offshore (where else would they be???) all get papers too.

A Tawny Owl was screeching like a depressed banshee outside the window at Dempsey Towers at 5am this morning, and Redwings are coming through in the night.
Yesterday afternoon's warm, calm weather sent several sprawks up into the air on my way home _ I had birds at Seaforth, Thornton and Ainsdale, while magpies were chasing the last craneflies of autumn, especially on Great Howard Street, Liverpool.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.

Love the birdblog. What's a sprawk? (as an exiled resident of Thornton, with parents still there, I am keen to tell my Dad what he might be missing)
