From the mosses....

While I was tazzing north for the Arctic Redpoll and Surfie at Aberlady Bay, more responsible local birders were out nearer home...

Thanks then to Gary McLardy for forwarding Derek William's latest records from Downholland Moss....
Golden Plover, Corn Bunting (with an impressive peak of 65 on November 22), Brambling, Mute and Whooper Swan, Fieldfare, Kingfisher (14th and 20th of December), Stonechat, Raven, pale bellied Brent Goose and 59 Carrion Crows on December 29th are the highlights for my money.
No news of the erratic Lesser Canada that pops up on Downholland then....
Just shows how fulfilling watching the same area can be _ then again you'll be waiting a long time before Arctic Redpoll, Mealy and Lesser Redpoll, three species of scoter (including a stonking male Surfie), and numerous Slavonian Grebes show up at Downholland!
Okay, so I had to drive for seven or eight hours with only snoozing birders and Alabama 3 for company to get these birds, but in crisp winter sun Fuzzyfelt Bay (or whatever it was called) was a great place to spend a Sunday morning!
An added bonus was a female Scaup on the ornamental lake at Annandale Water services on the M74 southbound _ I "'scoped" it using a "pay per view" tourist telescope mounted on a nearby fence _ 20p for a 30 second glimpse of a year tick isn't bad value I suppose.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies
