Finally a brisk northerly to freshen things up a bit....hopefully it'll bring a few birds in too.
What a pity high tide today is before dawn (at about 7.20am in Liverpool), as given the wind has been blowing for a fair few hours now, there's a good chance the odd Little Gull may have been pushed back into the Mersey mouth.
For those free this morning, it could be worth checking Crosby Marina, or offshore there for an unseasonal sprite or two....
If you don't fancy that, then 'scope the scoters off Formby Point, you may get lucky with a velvet....
I got good views of the Mandarins (male and female) at Mere Sands Wood at the weekend, they zoomed about under the vegetation on the far bank from the Marshall hide.....the male is stonking, just don't think too much about where they came from _ this place has California Wood Duck too.
Later in the day I had distant (VERY distant) views of the Little Egret flying around the outer marsh from the coastal road at Crossens.
Mind you, given the white blob was over half a mile away, it could just as easily have been a discarded shopping bag......
The Waxwings are still around Rice Lane, Walton, but as always, these beauties can be unpredictable. No bird as beautiful as this should be easy....
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
