Minus six outside...

Posted by on February 10, 2006 6:00 AM |

It was minus six as I drove in this morning, so winter's not letting go just yet...

Despite this an osprey was reported over Seacombe on the Wirral yesterday _ man, that IS early!!!! The only thing it'll be eating is frozen fish if the weather stays like this.
Not much to report today _ a hunting barn owl around Ince Blundell Woods earlier in the week, Hen Harriers still at Marshside and three Scaup there on the Sandplant pools in amongst the ever-growing Pochard flock.
Apart from a few flocks offshore, three Scaup is a BIG count for Marshside, although I believe the "reserve that dare not speak its name" at the other end of Sefton has had good numbers this winter.
Plenty of Blackbirds, Song Thrush and finches coming to my feeders and smaller flocks of Pink Feet still out over the mosses.....Red Legged and Grey Partridges were creaking and croaking away on Plex in good numbers last night _ long may they avoid the pot.
Liverpool Daily Post column tomorrow is about falling down the stairs and birding in deciduous woodland in winter...
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
