Got a bit of mopping up to do this weekend, just as well as the region is pretty quiet at present.
Without ringing, I reckon its a safe bet that Birdline (09068 700 249) will go something like this today "blah blah.....Laughing Gull, Porthmadog...blah blah...Richard's Pipit, West Kirby...blah blah....Lesser Scaup/Ring necked Duck on some obscure gravel pit you've never heard of...blah blah...Hen Harrier, Parkgate."
Nowt wrong with any of these birds of course, but the tail end of winter does tend to get a bit samey _ still if we can break out of this anti-cyclonic weather and get a good gale it might shake things up.
Feb/March is our best time for white-winged gulls along the coast and there's always the chance of a Hoopoe in a few weeks time....meanwhile I've got Jack Snipe, Woodcock, Bewick's Swan, Siskin, Hen Harrier and Little Egret to attend to this weekend as part of "Project Big Year List."
So it looks like a trips to Martin Mere, the Ribble estuary and Formby Pinewoods are on the cards.....
My Daily Post column tomorrow is about birdin' North Wales.....
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
