High tides aren't too bad this weekend, so with the filthy weather (is there really any need for it?), there may be a few reasonable gulls roosts at the usual sites.
Marshside One can be good along the Sefton coast _ it's not blowing hard enough to bring in Little Gulls, but those Laughing Gulls have got to start moving north sooner or later.
Watch from Hesketh Road and/or Nelly's Hide.
There's always a chance of a Med Gull or two at this time of year _ at Marshside (where the gulls start heading off onto the shore as soon as the tide has peaked), Weld Road, Birkdale; Ainsdale beach; Hall Road, Crosby, or Crosby Marina.
Derek Williams even had one on Downholland Moss earlier this month.
Even if you don't score with them, the "common five" species are starting to look good at this time of year _ you can never study 'em often enough, you never know you may find yourself in a Belfast-stylee "Audouin's Gull panic" (never discount a hybrid _ if a gull looks slightly wrong, it IS wrong, they're more philandery than a licentious stamp collector).
While I'm on the subject, we need more Glaucs and Iceland Gulls, numbers have really fallen in recent years.
If you can't get to the coast, why not try the North West's latest gull hot-spot _ the roof of the big Kwik Save warehouse at St Helens.
I kid you not, good numbers of gulls have been hanging around there, with both Yellow Legged and Caspian seen over the last month.
Okay, it might not be as aesthetically pleasing as the beach, but you could always get your shopping done at the same time......
My Daily Post column tomorrow is about, erm, fish (trust me).
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
