Can't go wrong now....

Posted by on March 31, 2006 7:02 AM |

It's hard to have a bad day birding at the moment _ if you can dodge the rain, Spring migrants are pouring through.

With unfavourable conditions prevailing until last weekend, a bottle neck of migrants has been released and birds are now streaming into the country from the continent.
No need to go twitching _ just find your own spot and see what you can find.
I've yet to get out (there's always this afternoon), but expect to find Chiffchaffs, Swallow, Wheatear, Sand Martin, White Wags etc over the next day or so _ all extra ticks in the year list bank.
I suppose if you HAVE to chase someone else's birds this weekend, the Spotted Crake at Parkgate could be good value, but watching your first Swallows zipping through low to the ground on your own patch is just as good for my money.
LATE NEWS: Good count of 60 yellowhammers from Chris Felton on Kirkby Moss, 36 Reed Buntings, 70 Linnets and 100 Pied Wags...all in a cattle field there in the second week of March.
PS My Daily Post column tomorrow is about Pine Martens, peanut butter and hyperthermia.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
