New garden tick ....????

Posted by on March 17, 2006 7:02 PM |

I've had loads of Grey Wagtails flying over Dempsey Towers, but this afternoon my first bird "on the deck" wandered up the garden path....

A lovely male, moulting into summer plumage it strutted right up to the back door as I watched it through a Sony video camera on full zoom _ great views, but no cassette in the damn machine of course.
C'est la vie!
At least eight pairs of Rooks were back at nests in the trees on the corner of Edge Lane and Buckley Hill Lane in Litherland as I motored home, so finally someone is getting into the spirit of Spring.
Paul "Tropical" Thomason just called - he'd gone for a walk down Fisherman's Path in Freshfield today and as well as a flyover Redpoll, he had four Crossbills, in pretty much the same place I saw them last Saturday.
Tropical did get good views of a fine male on top of a pine tho' _ which is more than I managed, having had to make do with flyover birds calling as they disappeared over the pines.
Tomorrow's Daily Post column is partly about Crossbills, partly about snow and largely about the lack of decent temperatures, only a week or so before the beginning of Britsh Summer Time.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
