Whizzed around Marshside this morning prior to Mother's Day dinner etc etc.
Loadsa Meadow Pipits displaying, as was Skylark, and there were at least 16 Avocets on Marshside One.
Lapwings tumbling, and a few Golden PLover in full summer plumage now.
Coltsfoot flowering in nice yellow banks in several places _ especially on the pavement immediately north of the Sandplant car park.
A superb male Stonechat on the wires in Wheatear corner (but no Wheatears _ although at least six went through yesterday, after Barry McCarthy's first on March 19 on Crossens Outer).
I'm sure I would have found one with a bit more time _ but you've got to get to the garage forecourt good and early to get the best flowers....
The Sandplant pools held smaller numbers of Pochard (approx 30 birds) but the male Scaup was still there, as was a male Ruddy Duck (just don't tell any of those psycho White Headed Duck lovin' freaks).
The marsh felt postively tropical after the bitter cold of Speyside...I think plenty of migrants will start pushing through this week _ time is running out after all...
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
