Just don't mention H5N1...

Posted by on April 7, 2006 1:15 PM |

The sky will NOT fall down with the late arrival of H5N1 to British shores, so there's still time to get out migrant hunting before the inevitable "killer chickens" and "turkey assassins" nonsense kicks in....

Weirdest record for a long time has got to be the Razorbill (yes, the Razorbill) at Leighton Moss this morning _ how did it end up there?
More migrants are on the move, with Ospreys trickling through this week, while there are still Siskins coming into the feeders at Dempsey Towers at present _ a shame there was no Serin with 'em, like the one reported from Hoylake yesterday.
My DP column tomorrow is about Ring Ouzels, and definitely NO mention of H5N1.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.

Good on you John. There's at least one journalist out there who is willing to recognise the truth then.

Bird Flu panic in Europe is all about big agri-businesses and the potential cost to them, no doubt subsidised by the EU = me and you, if another BSE-like cull is implemented.

Mute swans and other wild birds no doubt get bird-flu every year as a natural hazard. But for humans to contract it, it appears you would have to live, breathe and perhaps even mate with poultry, 24 hours a day.

If you are into that, then bird-flu would be a justifiable outcome in my book.
