5 Whimbrel, 2 Garganey, Whitethroat and Sedgies along with Swallows, Willow Warblers etc this morning, despite the nippy westerly breeze......

Went out on to Plex Moss first (no Dotterel yet), which was quiet apart from two singing Whitethroats, seven + Wheatears by Haskayne Cutting and a singing Yellowhammer there.
At least 4 different Buzzards and the usual Red Legged and Grey Partridges, Corn Bunts and small parties of Mipits were amongst the wailing Lapwings.

Went round to North Moss Lane, where five Whimbrels were feeding in one of the pastures, and got a few shakey shots of them....but the best pic is at the top of this entry -groovy head pattern!

Willow Warblers etc singing here and Swallows buzzing thro - the Whimbrel numbers should grow at this traditional stop over site over the next week or two, there can be over 100 birds in these fields in a good year.
Mike Stocker called from Marshside where there are a pair of Garganey, so I whizzed up through the Sunday driver traffic on the Coast Road (get OUT OF THE WAY birder coming through!!!) and found the dapper ducks in the top corner of Marshside One, just behind the Junction Pool.
Always good to watch a pair of Garganey - the males must be one of the prettiest ducks there is...
Good few Dunlin, Ruff and spanking summer plumage Blackwits here, and a Sedge Warbler singing from the brambles.
Earlier the boys had heard Reed Warbler in the SSSI ditch, and from Mount Baker had Whinchat and Little Egret on the outer marsh.
Two Litttle Gulls were on Marshside One a few hours before - nothing compared to the 300+ birds seen at Crosby Marina in the week.
Yesterday Pete Allen had reeling Grasshopper Warbler and two Pied Flycatchers on the Birkdale Reserve, and in the week Matt Bannon had a Black Tern at Walton (Appleton) reservoir near Warrington.
A few Swifts have gone through, but I'm back on gardening duties now....
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
