Seawatch and swift....

Very pleasant seawatch from the Tobacco Dump at Formby Point this morning _ about 1,000 Common Scoters, with a brief Velvet flashing off the waves amongst them, about 50 Kittiwakes, a light passage of Gannets, four or five Guillemots and a single Fulmar.
Bazzo saw a Manx Shearwater out on the horizon but I couldn't pick up on it...not to worry there'll be more later in the year.
A few Red Brested Mergs and Red Throated Divers added to the mix...
Then we whizzed off over the water to Heswall in bright Spring sunshine and happily light Bank Holiday traffic to watch the Alpine Swift.
This stunning bird performed right on cue, zooming over the car park of the Fox and Hounds pub on the Barnston Road with the odd Swallow and House Martin.....
Too fast for me to capture on the digi-camera, so I took a nice picture of the pub instead....

Surely this is how birding should be - the rarity zipping about in bright blue skies above your head, while you bask in the sun with a nice pint of beer in your hand, ahhh nirvana!!!
Back to reality we called into Crosby Marine Park, or whatever it is they call it now, where hordes of folk flew kites, ate ice creams and walked the dog....and at least 40 Little Gulls fed on chironomid midges off the surface of the marina.....
Really felt like Spring arrived today.
My Daily Post column tomorrow is about, er primroses and the late arrival of migrants.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.
