Was it looking out, or was I looking in?
Wandered down without optics this pm on way home from work - ta for the birders who let me have a gander at the female Baikal teal as it snoozed and bustled around the Causeway at Seaforth thro' their scopes...
Going without 'scope and bins is a most relaxing way to twitch, I must do it more often, altho I can't recommend looking thro a big fence as a means of birding, big grey concrete bars across your vision - now I know how the Birdman of Alcatraz felt.
Really distant views because of the daft lack of access to Neverneverland still, but you can see what it is thro' a 'scope certainly.
Couldn't see much of the base of the bill, but then it probably couldn't see what colour socks I had on from that distance, so we'll call it quits.
Is it wild? Who knows, but let's face it, the chances are its a little dodgy....
The male I saw at Minsmere in 2001 at least had the common decency to turn up in November with a large influx of Common Teal.
The female type at Seaforth has been there three days already, but if it is wild (wild? I'd be furious if I found myself there instead of Lake Baikal), it has picked a funny time of the year to turn up....
The Common Terns were nice tho'.....
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

I assume you didn't have to detour too far off your route home to see this turkey!
Watching a female of a species yet to be accepted onto the British List, at a range of some 600m through a steel fence....I'd rather go censusing Feral Pigeons in Liverpool 8
