Hot sunny afternoon, really quiet now with the summer lull kicking in with a vengence...
Still plenty of Swifts were up and hawking for insects as I headed into the city at 5.30am down the rabbit death alley that is the Formby by-pass.
Found myself working by the river today at West Waterloo Dock (just down from the big stripey summer pops tent), and had a flock of 16 Canada Geese there and a pair of adult Shelduck - the latter were a bit of a surprise, but there are so many sand piles and waste ground down there, they're probably breeding along the seawall somewhere.
The roadside by West Waterloo dock is carpeted with broken mussel shells, dropped by the Herring Gulls and LBBs taking advantage of lower water levels in these old docks.
Shards of shells were scattered everywhere as the gulls dropped 'em to shatter them and get to the goodies inside - the pavement was crunchy central.
Had a Brimstone moth in the van bay of the Post and Echo on Brook Street on the way home.
Red Admirals in the garden at home, and Dunnock, Robin and Goldcrest still singing.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
