Cranked up the trap again for a few hours on Friday night (23.6.06), although it was cool, there was plenty of cloud and moths came in in numbers nearer midnight.

Caught nothing out of the ordinary, but it was still nice (Tawny Owl calling as I blundered around in the glare of the bulb too).
I know both these shots are a bit blurry, but I like 'em because they show the eyes on the quivering Eyed Hawkmoth (above) and the nice pinkish wing patches of the Poplar Hawkmoth below.

Small Angle Shades, although not rare, is one of my favourite moths too - look at the patterns!

Anyway, I caught:
Large Yellow Underwing 15+
Scarce Silver Y 1
Heart and Dart 20+
Brimstone 15+
Grey Arches 7
Flame Shoulder 3
Spruce Carpet 1
Poplar Hawkmoth 2
Eyed Hawkmoth 1
Clouded Border 2
Peppered Moth 1
Silver Y 1
Garden Carpet 4
The Flame 7
Dark Arches 5+
Shaded Broad Bar 1
Common Wainscot 1
Spectacle 2
Snout 1
Common Footman 1
Buff Ermine 1
Marbled Minor 3
Marbled Beauty 2
Common Ear 3
Little Emerald 1
Small Magpie 1
Small Angle Shades 1
Foxglove Pug 1
Fanfoot 1
Lesser Yellow Underwing 2
Plus the usual shedloads of micros and carpets that I didn't have time to check out.....Thought I heard a Little Owl too, which would be weird in our neck of Ainsdale, but that could just have been the Shiraz....
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....

I'm not trying to out do you honest...but just this second I've just had a Hummingbird Hawkmoth pause in the garden here in SW Lincolnshire to feed on the honeysuckle and sweet william - if I'd followed the masses and watched the footie I'd have missed it.
Keep up the blog,
