Hummingbird Hawkmoth in back garden of Dempsey Towers this evening, checking out the buddleia - they don't just live in Lincolnshire then!

A friend sent me a link to your website, I wondered if you'd be interested in our sparrowhawk and chicks, who we've been watching for the last month or so (we've been getting nothing done, they're fascinating). We live near the station in Crosby and we'd seen some sparrowhawk activity in the area last year, so were prepared to keep our eyes peeled this year. In a large sycamore at the back of the garden behind us is a very scruffy nest which we knew to be frequented by a sparrowhawk. In the middle of June we finally saw what I can only describe as two fluffy white pom-poms just poking their heads into sight. Over the last week the chicks have become more daring and first one, then two have very gingerly part hopped, part flapped and part stumbled up the branches of their own and then neighbouring trees. During a photoshoot last Friday night (photos to follow if you wish) we were amazed to see a third chick still standing on the nest whilst it's siblings were standing around a little way away. They are beginning to lose their white downy feathers and have a curiously unkempt look about them. I've never submitted to a blog before, so would be grateful if you would let me know if you'd like more information or photos. I look forward to hearing from you, regards Julie Cunningham
