Seawatch 30.7.07

Quick birthday seawatch off the Tobacco Dump today, before Mr Peroni and his friends came calling....

Very hot, and last night's SWly had dropped right away, so really there were just terns offshore and a few Gannets.
'Scoped the calm sea from 12.30pm to 1.50pm. Deader than Elvis.
Plenty of Grey Seals offshore...and with so many folk out paddling, swimming, arsing about in dinghies etc it was a good day to play jellyfish/weaver fish roulette - well, what else can you do if it's quiet?
Ooohh I wouldn't paddle there if I were you.....

Gannet 30
Common Tern 25
Arctic Tern 9
Sandwich Tern 20
Cormorant 7
Guillemot 1
Razorbill 1
auk sp 2
Gt Crested Grebe 1
Common Scoter 30+

The nettle beds and thistles behind the shore held Grayling, Peacock, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Red Tailed Bumblebee etc and plenty of Six Spot Burnet Moths were out.....blowing harder now, so it may be better for a seawatch tomorrow.
Back home a Migrant Hawker came calling, and I got a few shots of it - they've been around since the middle of last week, and with Swift numbers steadily dropping, autumn can't be too far away...HALLELUJAH!!!

Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
