Julie Cunningham sent me this great pic (courtesy of her mum) of a fledgling Sprawk in their Crosby garden...I'll let her take up the story....
Julie writes:
"Had a very interesting couple of hours this morning. There was a commotion early on with 3 birds fighting over a catch (probably the juveniles but difficult to tell). Then one sat on the back fence and took it apart (too far away and too many leaves to see exactly what it was eating).
Later, out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw a bird come to ground, went to a different window for a better view and searched the lawn but no joy.
I was just about to go back to the dishes when I noticed something in the paddling pool. We'd let it drain, but there was still an inch or so of vibrant green water in the bottom (slight algae problem!).
One sprawk had landed in the pool and was using it like a giant birdbath, the other was trying to perch on the inflated top waiting it's turn.
It was incredible to watch. After a bath, it flew to the top of the climbing frame to dry off and then disappeared into the trees. Then the second hopped into the pool and did the same."
