Banks birding....

Ron Jackson just e-mailed with gen from the weekend, including a Pec Sand....

His e-mail follows.....

"John,
Pec Sand (juv) at Banks yesterday at top of big tide. Marsh covered
with birds, this fairly close (at least through my Televue 85
bino-viewer) with about 400 odd Ringed Plover (nearly all now in winter
plumage) and Dunlins. Other similar sized peep flocks further out
containing ? as well as usuals. Two juv Curlew Sands . Ducks mainly
Teals but Wigeons building up plus some Pintails and Shovs. Most Ducks
eclipse. No geese 'cept Canadas
Tony Duckels and I had summer plumage RT Diver off Formby on Friday. Nowt
"pelagic" , Sandwich Terns, 50 odd, feeding offshore. Calm, stacks of
waders on shore but disturbed by dog walkers.
Pec Sand was a tick, despite trip to US, a long wait but I'm now more
certain I had one years ago when the Marine Lake in Southport was being extended
creating ,a fabulous temporary fresh flood where the north end now is.
I'm pretty certain about WR Sand there as well. No scopes in those days
and only Peterson field guide.
Cheers,
Ron
ps had moulting ad summer Med Gull on 31/8 with Richard Kennedy at
Cressington Prom."
Thanks for the info Ron.
Maurice Wright rang this morning after watching an Osprey fishing on the Three Pools Waterway behind Churchtown on Friday.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
