Okay, so no one's playing "Spot the Ibis".
It was chased away from the mere by gulls (NW Birdline), but with a southerly wind at its tail feathers, you never know, it may pitch down on the Ribble (Marshside, oh please, oh please), Brockholes Quarry, or Leighton Moss.
Then again, it may just keep on flapping.
Grey Wags back in Liverpool city centre for the last two days, and a pair of peregrine high over the heart of town today.
Flocks of Starlings gorging on elderberries in several places, Robin and Goldcrest in the vegetation along Great George Street.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
STRANGE WEATHER A-COMIN'
The remains of Hurricane Gordon are predicted to travel over a thousand miles from North-west Spain to south of Iceland in only 24 hours, passing over Ireland and the west Irish Sea tonight. Although Friday's and Saturday's winds here not ideal in direction (south tomorrow, south-east Saturday)there must be a chance that such an exceptional weather-pattern will bring an exceptional seabird or two, and maybe landbirds as well. Formby Point tomorrow am!
Long Eared Owl on my Roof!! still there now 15:55hrs thurs 21 Sept. Sheltering next to chimney. Apparently been on a roof further down road. The road is Wyresdale Road, off Warbreck Moor, Aintree (At the Cemetary end of the road)
John
The Long Eared Owl flew off about 16:30hrs. It caused quite a stir in the street as the local school was letting out, The kids were as good as gold and my bino,s must have had 30 of them peeping thru them. It appears the owl is a tame one and escaped from an aviary. It is now the most photographed bird in aintree as every one with a camera phone snapped it.
Superb Kevin - escape or not, Long Eared Owl on your roof is quite something.
I'm going to check my TV aerial now just in case...
Nope, nothing there.
Cheers,
John
I missed the Ibis, though I went to Martin Mere the day after - just in case! I'm wondering where the hell it has dissapeared to?
Well Johhny1, a passage bird like that could be halfway to John O'Groats by now, especially with the southerly wind....or it just may be hidden on a quiet part of the mosses or the estuary.
That's birdin!
