Latest news from Banks Marsh from Ron Jackson....
Ron's just e-mailed me about what's up on Banks Marsh at present, and other bits and bobs.....
"John, half a dozen Little Stints at Banks on Tuesday mixed up with a mob of Dunlins and Ringed Plovers.
The two I got a decent views of were nicely braced juvs, as bright as winter Sanderlings and scuttling around like demented mice. A couple of Curlew Sands as well.
"Wigeons seemed to have disappeared from the floods, presumably out by the river as most
September arrivals winter here rather than passing through. Odd skein
of feet but no proper flocks.
"Tony Duckels had 25,000 Knots on the Ainsdale to Southport stretch of the beach on the
WEBS count on Sunday, there must have been other big flocks at Alt end, around the Pier and off Crossens. He also had a Osprey flying south.
"Richard Kennedy and I were in North Wales at weekend, nowt particularly no
small birds, but we didn't hear about Cemlyn and the Isabelline Wheatear until back home in SW Lancs."
Don't worry about missing the wheatear Ron, it happens to the best of us - I drove past Crosby Marina earlier this week, blissfully unaware of the White Pelican there briefly.
Good job I saw one up at Preston in August, as I reckon the argument that they are wild birds seems to be gathering momentum....(and I never say no to an armchair tick!)
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
