Thanks to Tropical Thomason for his pic of the dozing Long Eared Owl at Marshside today...he takes up the story.....
"Howdo John,
Here's photo of da owl, while watchin' this with Jellyhead a S E owl flew over, this sent him flying off on an evening's owl quest, so far he has added Barn and Little to the evening's list, he's now lurking out there somewhere, probably in the garden of some unsuspecting Southport citizen with binoculars, looking for the elusive Tawny owl.
We're bound to read about him in this week's Visiter in the public nuisance section.
See ya Friday,
Tropical."
Hurrah!!!
Thanks for the pic Paul - it's the closest I got to the bird, a first for Marshside, but I did get a call from Jellyhead not too long ago as he strained his ears for a Tawny, he's still listening for one - you keep him talking, I'll get the net....
Seriously tho', all five owls in SW Lancs in a day is no mean feat - I've only done it once on a bird race eons ago.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

How ironic - Sister Insomnia of the Holy Order of Perpetual Wakefulness came visiting last night at about 1am - just couldn't get back to sleep.
Things weren't helped by one of the local Tawny Owls calling through the night till 4.45am at least.
If you're still looking for a Tawny Owl Jellyhead, there's one here you're welcome to....
