Mike Price kindly sent me these shots of pink footed geese grazing in fields near Aughton recently, a stone's throw from his house.
It must be nice to have neighbours like that, although I guess they can
be a bit noisy.
I notice the bird in the centre of the first pic has a neck collar, presumably from Iceland.
Shame you can't read the number.

Upto 2000 PFGs on the fields at the north end of Runnells Lane, Thornton all of last weekend. Quite a sight (and sound!).
Formby Point seawatch Thursday 26 October, over 3 hours in 6-7 westerly, rough seas but perfect visibility. Disappointing tally:
1 Red-throated Diver
8 Gannets
group 5 Whooper Swans, south
c 1000 Common Scoters
5 Red-breasted Mergansers
35 Kittiwakes
1 Sandwich Tern (quite late)
4 Razorbills
Today,2nd Nov. there was a male Clouded Yellow careering around Crosby dunes and a fully grown Clouded Yellow caterpillar on birds foot trefoil (I kept a check on a patch of clover on which there were a dozen eggs...at least 5 of the resultant caterpillars reached full growth a week ago before wandering off to pupate) A silver Y moth was also on the wing in the sunshine plus a Red Admiral at Waitrose Formby and a Peacock in Lord St Southport.
