Seawatchin' troosers on!

Posted by on October 3, 2006 5:13 PM |

Shaping up nicely for a good bit of seawatchin' this week - if the wind and showers hold up, Leach's Petrels could be offshore any minute.

It is getting a bit late for 'em, but I feel we deserve our annual petrel hit, if only to balance out the surreal number of Balearic Shearwater sightings off North Wales at present - are they making them there or something?
Tides are nice and high, especially at the weekend, but anytime from Thursday could be good.
Formby Point for the certifiable (and I happily include myself in this category), New Brighton for those who like their comforts, or Crosby front for the in-betweenies.
Check online or in Lavers for the best tides.
Eyes to the waves everybody, eyes to the waves.....
PS Glossy Ibis flew into Martin Mere earlier today - at least Bill and Kate will have something to look at now....

John, saw the Glossy zooming around high over M Mere (Utd Utilities hide area) this am. I think disturbed by loads of noisy incoming feet.
Others saw as well inc Oddie. I last saw the bird dropping down beyond the sewage works in the direction of the old airfield at Burscough.
Barnie with feet and Red Breast reported.
Feet all over the place eg Plex Moss. Two M Harriers on MMere and a Merlin Formby Moss,
Ron

I'll be giving Formby Point a go Friday am; high tide about 1105, good strong south-westerlies forecast, occasional showers. I'll text in the details

Ta Bazzo, may your Leach's be many.

Looking at the 5-day forecast, only Friday and Saturday likely to be productive, with moderate to strong westerlies. By Sunday wind drops and veers south
