I've not been around this weekend so don't really know what's been about....have I missed anything?
Much at the marsh or elsewhere?
I guess the wildfowl numbers should be picking up (I got this shot of a female teal from the Sandgrounders hide a week or so ago), but what about winter thrushes?

You've not missed much, John ...
... apart from the Glossy Ibis at the marsh on Saturday afternoon, a passing Med Gull same day, marsh harrier, hen harrier, prob. green sandpiper, three little egrets, a full house of the usual raptors, and several curlew sands and little stints on the shore. Doubtless others have more.

The usual suspects have been at Marshside, with large numbers of Pinkies feeding by the shoreline. Of interest are a few Curlew Sandpipers, 2 little egrets and 3 Merlin. There is also a solitary Pochard hanging about on Rainfords Lagoon.
Bird of the week however was a Glossy Ibis (apparently a first for Marshside) which showed well on Faircloughs pool on Saturday afternoon.
The bird was seen by Graham Clarkson and Tony Baker (amongst others.

I believe the Glossy Ibis visited Marshside late Friday afternoon and was senn briefly at Martin Mere early Saturday morning. Called in at Martin Mere briefly on the Sunday to see if it was still around but got fed up fighting our way through the crowds (thank you Autumnwatch) apparently over 4000 bods there on Sunday!

Had my first small flock of redwing on Sat morning (five) - will have to check the newly arrived Lancs Bird Report to see if this is truly early and had two Fieldfare over Chester Zoo Sunday morning after I had been to feed the penguins!!

I think your days are a bit confused there Johnny - the ibis popped in on Saturday having come from Pilling where it was on the Friday. It was seen over Martin Mere 10am Sunday

Where abouts do the Little Egrets Congregate?
was there on sunday (Marshside), didnt get much of interest, was impressed by the number of Golden Plover.
Moved onto Martin Mere, where i missed a Kingfisher by a few seconds, must have done that a dozen times now, i'll get one at Martin Mere eventually, mark my words. saw an amazing specticle of at least 7000 geese flying in all at once. THE NOISE!!! there was a marsh harrier aswell in the reeds to the west of Ron Barker
Waxwings turned up yet?

Best place to look for the Little Egrets is either from the top of Mount Baker (the high plateau behind the sandplant) and scan the marsh and edge of the mudflats, or from Marine Drive north of the Sandplant, about 300 metres up, and look out into the flooded area,
