Just got this release from Victoria Guinan over at Martin Mere, about a good Starling roost at Martin Mere this week.
Here it goes.....

"WWT Martin Mere has seen the return of approximately 7,000 starlings at the Centre.
The birds disperse during the day but return to the Centre at approximately 4pm everyday with a fantastic ten minute spectacle, creating shapes in the sky as they prepare to roost for the evening by the Chilean flamingo house.
The best views of the birds display is either from the Pond House or outside the greenwood building from 3.45pm onwards."

Okay, it's not a mega roost, but it's better than nothing, and flamingoes and Starlings do sound like an interesting combination....
(WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations).
Visit the web site http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/martinmere/ to find out what’s on all year round at Martin Mere.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

I managed the spend the whole day on Monday counting all of the Marshside reserve & Crossens inner.
It made a change from the office!
Key species; Wigeon 21410, Teal 5130, Black-tailed Godwit 5052, Golden Plover 2840, Lapwing 3870. Others incl; Pintail 325, Shoveler 181, Gadwall 10, Pochard 78.
Mike Bird counted 37 Ruff on Weds, the Water Rail is hanging out to the left of Sandgrounders hide & up to 64 feral Barnacles are taking a holiday on the reserve.
Very large numbers of Lapwings again today, haven't had chance to count them though - if any of the local birders need something useful and birdy to do please come and count them!

Have just discovered a large roost of Starlings on the Seaforth Dock north of Liverpool.
We have seen over recent years many Starlings flying over our house close to the docks so we decided to investigate.
5pm we entered the dock system to find large groups gathering from all directions and waiting up on the dock cranes.
Suddenly all launched into the air and we were given a good 10 to 15 minute display above the water of the dock.
Lots better than Martin Mere and about half the number of Gretna but still awesome. You can view fom the LWT sanctuary but without permission it is hard to get close.

I made a video of the Starlings coming into Martin Mere last Friday.
You can see on Youtube.
