Thanks to Neill Hunt, who finally got this amazing gallery of pictures from his pelagic off Australia's Wombat Creek this autumn to me...
As usual, Neill's pics are excellent, and I make no excuse for running the full gallery of them (starting with the Black Browed Albatross above).
He actually went on the pelagic off Wollongong aboard The Sandra K (although I believe Wombat Creek sounds just as plausible as Wollongong) in August and was at sea for ten hours.
"We travelled out approx 40 mile and the trip lasted about 10 hours, it was a very quick 10 hours though with birds to see as soon as we left the harbour," Neill explains.
While he enjoyed the high life down under (only one child nearly eaten by a giant lizard), Neill's kitchen exploded in a plumbing-related tsunami of drainwater which he has been repairing since his return.
This explains the delay in getting these pix online, especially as he only had a wheelbarrow full of spent Swan Vestas, some toothpaste and a big ball of string for to create a whole new kitchen for Mrs H.
Well done Neill and thanks again for the pics, the next of which are Crested Tern, Northern Giant Petrel and Yellow Nosed Albatross.

Albatrosses (Albatriii?) get so close to the boat they can be scooped out of the water for ringing, like this Wandering Albatross - hardly the most dignified pose for such an enigmatic bird.

There, that's better......

Okay, time for some more of Neill's Albatross orgy, with Shy, Campbell's and White Capped next up....

And how about a group of Wandering Albatross with a Yellow Nosed thrown in?

Had enough Albatross? Try Brown Skua, Wedge Tailed Shearwater, Cape Petrel and Solander's Petrel. Wow.

No pelagic would be complete without a few gulls so here comes Silver and Kelp Gull respectively...

And finally, here's one of them big, snot blowing fish, so beloved of Marshside's seawatching platoon, a Humpback Whale.

Quite remarkable Neill, thanks once again for sharing.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
