The problem is of course how to survive the hospitality of the season.
Was over on Plex Moss for Christmas Day (20 Corn Buntings, Grey Wagtail and a superb dinner), but today I managed to get down to finally take a look at the Freshfield Dune Heath reserve and then take a constitutional along Fisherman's Path to the beach.
The dune heath reserve looks pretty good (although completely devoid of anything other than Magpies today).
If I was the Woodlark that decided to try to winter in Sefton, this is where I'd come, and it might be worth a look for Nightjar one summer evening.....
Fisherman's Path was busy with Boxing Day walkers so birds were few and far between, apart from Song Thrush, Goldfinch and titmice.
I couldn't resist a quick seawatch though when I got to the beach.
It was dark and misty, but the water was flat.
In 15 minutes, I saw :
Red Breasted Mergs 8
Red Throated Divers 6
Razorbill 1
Great Crested Grebes 3
Common Scoter 13
Pintail 4
plus the usual Grey Plover, Sanderling, Cormorant etc.
Not bad for a quick look.
Anyway, gotta go now, another social gathering looms.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
