Instead of kicking back and enjoying a cold beer this afternoon I went for a wander round the Sands Lake and Ainsdale Beach as dusk approached.
Attempting a seawatch from a low dune in fading light and biting winds was not my smartest move....
About 60 Common Scoters offshore, with a reasonable gull roost of the commoner species, including three Black Headed Gulls in full summer plumage.
A few Sanderlings on the tideline as usual.
Sands Lake had 149 Tufties at least, plus 10 Shoveler, and usual Mallards and 8 Mute Swans, Moorhen etc.

Pre-roost group of 16 Magpies, and Greenfinch, 7 Blackbird and Brown Rat around the sea buckthorn.
Time to call it a day.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
PS Daily Post column tomorrow is about Short Eared Owls and high tides.
