Went up to Marton Mere at Blackpool today to see the roosting Long Eared Owls.
Picked up Bazzo on the way.
There were four LEOs in the usual place by the footpath, dozing away, but looking gorgeous.
Only trouble was the sun was right behind the birds, and brambles, branches etc obscured the view, which is why my shots look like they've been taken through a wet dishcloth.
First day of proper sunshine in ages and I'm complaining about it!!!! Oh dear.
The owls were great though.

We went for a look for the Cetti's Warblers with no joy and as it was a bit early for the Bitterns (they show best at dusk), Bazzo and I went back for another look at the owls.

The sun had moved round a bit, but it was still behind the birds, and they'd gone a bit further in to the bushes.

Met up with Chris Tynan, and Stephen Menzie et al, and Chris kindly gave us the info for the Firecrest near Preston.
I say kindly, but by the time we got there it hadn't been seen for nearly three hours, so all there was to look at was garden gnomes and a Goldcrest.
At least we got Tiger on call for the year (as we walked past the zoo in Blackpool) so it wasn't a total write off.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
