Day-flying Barn Owls; tightrope-walking Buzzard

Drove round the Withins and Altcar Moss this afternoon, and it wasn't too bad.
I was just stopping to try to digipic a couple of Stock Doves when everything flew up, flushed by this Common Buzzard, which sailed in and perched on overhead wires about 300 metres away.

Seemed quite stable on the wire, without a safety net or anything, then it took flight again, spooking a few small Lapwing flocks and about 80 Starlings.
Reed Bunts about and Skylarks singing as Red Legged Partridges scurried off in the direction of Downholland.
Best of all was two day flying Barn Owls, one on the Withins and the second on the other side of Great Altcar.
Superb birds, and I couldn't resist trying a few fuzzy pix from a distance as the second bird patrolled the ditches looking for prey.
It really was too far off to get a decent shot though.
What is there not to like about Barn Owls?

Several sizeable flocks of Pink Feet in the air, but way too distant to do anything with - they seemed to drop down around Segar's Moss.
More rain came in so headed back to Dempsey Towers.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Female Common Scoter at Sands Lake on the duck platform looking pretty exhausted at 08.00 this morning. Looked again at dinner time and it was swimming around quite strongly.

Ta Ralph - a good Sands Lake record.....
