Just been sent the latest issue of "Wildlife in Merseyside", the newsletter of the Merseyside Biodiversity Group.
The newsletter is available from the "Progress Reports" page of the biodiversity group's website:
Long may the newsletter it continue...it's full of stuff on plants, sites, everything really....and while we're on the subject of reading stuff, can I thank everyone who has been using this blog?
Just got the latest figures on how many people have been using the Birdblog, and in the month of February, I had 10,065 hits from 3,546 people.
Great - thanks for all your support, I'd raise a glass to everyone of you, but 3,546 Peronis might not be such a good idea.....
Meanwhile I believe the Green Winged Teal is still at Marshside, but does anyone know if the 2nd year Ring Billed Gull is around Crosby Marina still?
What about the Caspian Gull there?
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

hiya John

Noon 10.4m high tide @ Parkgate yesterday a big letdown
we went with our good friends Alan & Betty who are new to birding so it was a bit of a shame for them, although they did say that for some furry creatures they would be delighted, since they would be living another day !!!
Anyway, a lone swallow @ Inner Marsh Farm very much made up for this disappointment
+ a ringtail being mobbed by a crow for just over ten minutes was spectacular
+ a dozen Whoopers
+ grazing Canadas keeping an eye on two sneaky foxes skirting the woodland
So, one of those few wonderful days just now when we see & experience winter & summer crossing-over --- Swallow flying over Whoopers. Magic. Stunning
Moreover, one swallow may not make a summer, however, the first swallow of the summer certainly does make a day !!!
Away to Marshside just now.
as always, good wishes
Mark + Sue

John,
I missed a Glaucous at Banks on Sunday after my WeBS stint.
It was apparently flying along the sea wall as part of a more or less continuous stream of mainly Herring Gulls flushed off the outer marsh
by the tide/wind.
Nothing on whether adult/sub-adult. Loads of big
gulls out there all winter, beyond scoping distance.
LBBs have started to arrive in numbers.
Ron
P.S. Hilbre yesterday, first time in years. Perfect early spring weather, sun burn etc but, of course, no land birds and v little else.
A few GC Grebes and Mergs, 40 odd Brents (light bellied) usual Purple Sands (nice) and that was it and we all got wet feet! Today should be
miles better.
