Thanks to Andy Bate for sending me this shot he took of Lapwings at sunset (again)...all very prosaic.
To see more of his shots, log onto his website at http://andybate.co.uk
Seems Andy couldn't resist the charms of Marshside's Green Winged Teal either - is there a photographer left in the western world who hasn't photographed this bird yet?

Thanks for the pix Andy.....
Greater 'pecker drumming in the garden at Dempsey Towers this afternoon, which was nice, plus a phylly "hoo-eting" a garden or two away, sounded like a Chiffy.
On the subject of Chiffies, Jack Taylor has sent me a shot of a grey collybita bird he caught and ringed at Spurn last October....food for thought for tristis fans who have trekked to Wicks Lane?

To be fair, the Formby bird earlier this week (which Jack saw too) was a whole lot paler and greyer than the collybita bird above, with more striking yellow and green bits (ah, the use of precise scientific terms is a source of great pride for me), and of course Jack's pic is of a bird in autumn, rather than spring, but we shall see.....
Jack also e-mailed me a recording of singing Siberian (tristis) Chiffchaff, which I tried to post here, but unfortunately the file was too big.
I can say that it sounded a whole lot more vigorous than the bird I listened to singing earlier this week.......
For those who get no buzz from the joys of Chiffy race complexities in the field (why not? watching something you can't positively id is good for the soul - and the ego), here's Derek Williams' latest records from the mosses around Haskayne, from March 31st to April 3rd:
Great Spotted Woodpecker 3; Whimbrel 3; Black Tailed Godwits maxima 318; Little Gull 1 adult winter; 19 pairs of Rook; Teal 31; Stock Dove 10+; Corn Bunting 30; Shelduck 21; Merlin (fem) 1.
Thanks again to all for the info, it's nearly the Easter weekend - and hopefully loads more migrants.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....

Sorry i havent sent you my Green winged TEAL photos but my camera being made of jelly has made my photos show plenty of camera shake !
People just dont realise what a burden it is being made of jelly!
If i was dependant on drugs and alcohol and glue i could get help! but who wants to know ? years ago the Chivers help line told me to pull myself together and stop shaking! what do they know?
Jellyhead

And this is the man we're heading into the High Atlas Mountains with in a week or so - God help us all......!
