An Eagle Owl perching on your garden shed in the evening certainly beats cats, Collared Doves or Woodies.
I think the red eye from the camera flash gives the brute that extra "fierce factor" boost - imagine that on your peanuts missus!

Bloody Hell just seen the pics of the Eagle Owl on your bird blog, I am sure
I heard an owl last night when I went to bed. Daft question maybe - I live near
the centre of Southport , would I hear them round there?
Don't worry Tracy - your owls in Southport town centre will be Tawny Owls, still pretty cool birds, but a lot less likely to eat a small child than an Eagle Owl
(only joking about the child, but I wouldn't like to be a stray cat or terrier around Maghull at the moment).

The Harris' Hawk still around Banks Marsh on Tuesday. I desisted from whirling dervish routine
(a) 'cos bods nearby doing what looked like wrapping a field in polythene and
(b) the thing was about half a mile away anyway.
Marsh drying out and v little grass after Wigeons stripped it bare, as they're supposed to.
A good number, several thousand, of 'Feet (grazing on the longer non Wigeon touched vegetation) but just out of decent scope range what with heat haze and the like.
Nothing sexy though, no migrants, no giant owls , just a pair of Littles.
I've even taken to scanning each and every Mipit, must stay in more.

When we woke this morning there was and still is what we think is an Eagle owl perched on the roof of a house opposite our house, it has been sat their for over 1 hour and seems to have no intention of moving as I write this email ( 10.12am Sunday 22nd April )
I have taken pictures on my camcorder however I am unable to take a normal picture as my camera will not zoom in close.

I saw a similar owl (to the photo above) last night sat on the gutter of a house in Pilkington Road, Southport!!
I'm was sure it was an Eagle Owl but convinced myself it couldn't be (round here)
there were about a dozen magpies and crows attacking something in my garden this morning, when i went to see what, i found an eagle owl the same as in the picture.
it sheltered in my pear tree, and was still there at 2 this afternoon.
