Thanks to Rich Steel who sent me these superb shots of Grasshopper and Sedge Warblers taken at Leasowe very early in the a.m. recently.
Something tells me Rich doesn't just hold a digital camera up to a scope and press the button.....

You can see more of his shots at his website, the link is up there on the right in the Links section.
Just shows, that while Groppers and Percy Sledges can be frustrating, elusive and downright irritating to see, if you put the time in, you can get tremendous views/pix of them (although I think it'll be quite awhile before I get anywhere near this standard....)

Thanks again Rich - who needs to chase Black Scoters off Jenny Brown's Point, when you can see stuff like this closer to home (or just go to Llanfairfechan in the winter)?
Eyes to thes skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

On site 0920-1145, joined by Neill from 1030.
Respectable species list, but overall numbers very low and most birds very far away. Light conditions superb.
Spp:
Red-throated Diver 1
Manx Shearwater 2
Gannet 17
Common Scoter 8
Arctic Skua 1, fine views of pale phase adult heading south
Kittiwake 13
Sandwich Tern 6
Common Tern 7
Arctic Tern 3
Guillemot 3
Light passage of Swallows north over sea.
With strengthening westerlies it should have been better today, if anyone was out; I'll give it another go tomorrow, as W/SW winds due to stay strong until late Sat night.

another sleepless night saw me at North Moss Lane and the Cheshire Lines at 5.30 am. All the usual suspects although the whimbrel seem to have gone.

I saw a pair of red Legged Partridges and realised they were a life tick for me! When I checked on the RSPB site they don't seem to have realised that we have them up here - there is just a big white blob on their map.

Whitethroats abounded and, I think, 1 lesser whitethroat singing in the trees just by the junction of Lane and Lines.

Several song thrushes on the fields were nice to see.

Went on to Marshside for a while and packed up just as the rain started. Quite a lot of avocet and blackwits with some redshank and 1 dunlin, any number of swallows, house martins and a couple of swifts (first of the year for me).

Domesticity abounded with little heads popping up all over the moss, including a couple of pair of wigeon.

The goslings were delightful.

Wheatear at wheatear corner and sedge warbler where it should be and all was right with the world.

And so to bed!
