Thanks to Graham Clarkson, RSPB warden at Marshside, who e-mailed me the following summary of our action-packed week this morning.
The nifty aerial shot of the centre of our universe was taken by the RSPB too...
Hi John
Warden's update from Marshside:
Glad everyone who came enjoyed the Woodchat Shrike. Thanks to the Southport lads for helping control the straying photographers. Also special thanks to Jacko for dealing with the two potheads out on Rimmer's marsh - they could easily have been eggers!
On Monday Simon Glinn & I separately, but concurrently, watched a Honey Buzzard circle over the reserve then drift off south. We both had a distant Marsh Harrier going north.
The Glossy Ibis was also back on Monday and was feeding around Polly's pool on Wednesday afternoon.
Avocets have been doing well, 26 breeding pairs so far (max of 24 pairs last year), Lapwings & Redshanks also seem to be having a good season.
Cheers,
Graham
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.....
