Rain, rain, rain

Not the best of days to be out birding, so I went over to Martin Mere - at least it's dry in the hides.
Relatively quiet there - usual Common Buzzards, Cuckoo calling on the fenceposts to the right of the Ron Barker hide, a few Dunlin, Ringed PLover, squadrons of Avocets and young.
One LBB swiped an Avo egg - nature's winnowing fork in action.
Kingfisher darting round the lush ditches and one nice dark male Ruff.

Too far off to get a decent image, as is often the way here.
No sign of the Wood Sand while I was there.
Three Whooper Swans and five Pinkies were winter residue, plenty of Tree Sparrows, and Andy Bunting managed to trap a Wren while mothing a few nights ago - makes a change from Large Yellow Underwings.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
