Fine morning at Marshside

Gorgeous morning on the marsh today, down before 8am, when the air was still cool, and the southerly breeze hadn't picked up.
Blue, blue, skies...
A check of the coastal path between Hesketh Road and Marshside Road and a quick rummage on the golf course brought five Willow Warblers, a Reed Warbler, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a very near miss from a golf ball.
Plenty of Common Darters on the wing, and a steady trickle of Swallows and House Martins, plus a few Swifts were heading south.
Form the top of Mount Baker, Meadow Pipits called overhead, and the pools on the outer marsh held Dunlins, Blackwits, a family of Oystercatchers, Curlew, Redshank etc.
In the old Sandplant compound I had Whitethroat, plus three Yellow Wagtails, feeding on the deck, and calling frequently whenever they made short flights.

Too far away to get a decent picture - hence the blow up messes above. A few Pied Wags were in there too.
Tasty pipit/wagtail habitat.
A Great Spotted Woodpecker came bounding in off the saltmarsh, and pitched down into the bushes on the south side - a migrant?
From Sandgrounders Hide, four Little Egrets were on Marshside Two and Crossens Inner and there was a good godwit roost on Polly's Creek.

Nel's Pool still belongs to the Coot clan - 97 of them there this morning, and earlier on the Glossy Ibis paid a visit to Marshside One.
A few young Black Headed Gulls still begging for food from their disinterested parents.

The northern sheltered side of the Sandplant walls was alive with butterflies, mainly Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell, but a few Red Admiral, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown and Common Blue.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
