Seawatch 04.08.07

Went for a (very) quick seawatch at high tide this afternoon off Ainsdale.
Beach was packed, it was humid and last night's winds had dropped right away.
Not much moving at all.
About 20 Sandwich Terns offshore, a few Common Terns fishing and two Arctic Terns heading south.
Further out, Gannets were cruising the horizon.
Two Common Scoter south and one Great Crested Grebe north.
That's the way seawatching is - you just don't know what's out there - today not a great deal.
Wandered south into the dunes, but apart from Meadow Pipits still feeding young and a trickle of Swifts and Swallows south, they were quiet too.
Thistle heads were nectar heaven for Burnet moths, but that was about it.

Finally, happy birthday to my godson/nephew Spud - too busy eating cake and playing Transformers today to get out birding for his fifth birthday, but he got a field guide, so that's a start....

Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Seawatch from Formby Point today - no skuas, only two Manx Shearwaters.
Decent totals of Gannets (137) and Common Terns (235).
Good tides again from next Friday - pray for winds!
