Thanks to Tropical Thomason, who sent these pix from his latest foray into the dunes at Birkdale, when the sun was shining on Wednesday (22.08.07).
Here's how he got on:
"Hi John,
As today was the first sunny day off for me in a while thought I'd check out me local patch - Birkdale N.R. - for butterflies and dragonflies. I've seen more dragonflies today than I've seen all year, about 20 hawkers including 3 migrant hawkers, common hawker, 1 brown hawker and 4 emperors, common darters where everywhere but only 1 ruddy darter found.

The few butterflies around included 3 red admirals and a painted lady and the first of the years silver y moth means autumn is nearly here.

Here's a few pics, the painted lady is on milkweed, I planted some in the hope of tempting any passing monarchs.....ah one day."
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Hi John
Thought you'd be interested in the photo I got this week of one of the Marsh Harriers at Inner Marsh Farm.
This bird flew straight in front of the hide and posed nicely for me.
