Got down to Ainsdale for an hour or so before high tide this morning (10.30am-11.45am), south westerly, force 3-4, with a few sunny spells, and simply gazillions of Common Scoter on the water.
Counted 565 in a single sweep north of the rig for approx 800m in one string of bobbing black dots.
Feeding flock of gulls on the horizon south of the rig held a few Gannets - the last I'll see till next year probably, here comes the winter.
Despite constant checking of the scoter horde I couldn't see any Velvets, but I bet there's one or two out there.

One small group of Scaup on the swell about 200 metres out, before the kitesurfers spooked 'em.
Tropical Thomason called last night - he had three Brambling and three Bullfinch at Birkdale Dunes on Wednesday last week.
Grey Wagtail, Meadow Pipit, Redwing, Pied Wags over this morning around Ainsdale dunes, and two Siskin over Dempsey Towers.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies.

Shaping up for quite a decent SW/W on Wednesday, with high tide at about 1400.
