Gorgeous afternoon so went for a walk down Taggs Island with Mrs D.
Not much about - although tideline corpses included 2 Gannets and five Guillemots, all long past their sell by date.
5 Stonechats, 2 Song Thrushes, one groups of 17 tired Meadow Pipits on the sand, with smaller pipit parties here and there, and a few Skylarks, but it was way too pleasant to be splashing about looking for Jack Snipe - their time will come...
Small gull roost bathing on the channel as it reaches the beach by the "new" boardwalk.
Insect wise, I had three Migrant Hawkers, a few Common Darters, 2 Red Admirals, and this little critter....
I'm no good with ladybirds, but I wonder, is it a Harlequin?
Perhaps if Mike Bird (or any other ladybirdheads) is reading he can help me out....

hi john,the ladybird looks like a 11 spotted.the only bit thats confusing is the pronotum (the bit behind the head).this part can vary in marking quite a bit.the only other ladybird like this is the adonis but the spots did,nt lookright to me. mike.
The Jack Snipes are on their way John. Had the first of the autumn over here in SW Norway under surprisingly pleasant conditions a couple of days back.
Even got a photo of sorts....
