Seawatch 10.11.07

Mighty late in the year I know, but I thought I'd try a seawatch this morning, and got down to Formby Point for 9.30am.
Stayed till 11.15am, with high tide just before 11.
W/SW blowing, force 5-6 and really murky, but the rain held off and it wasn't too cold (then again I was wearing so many layers I looked like the Michelin man's fat brother).
There was always the remote chance something may battle past after the blows we've had this week - it didn't.

Common Scoter 500+
Red Breasted Merganser 2
Great Crested Grebe 1
Red Throated Diver 3
Kittiwake 2
Guillemot 1
Common Gull 20+
LBB 15+

I'm sure there were plenty more scoters out there, but with the wind and swell, I only really saw flying birds, and fleeting glimpses of black dots bobbing up and down in the middle distance.
A blizzard of waders zipped past over the tide, forced off roosting spots down near Cabin Hill I expect - Grey Plovers, Barwits, Turnstone etc.
Right, off to clean my optics.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Spent a short time on Mount Baker at high tide today. 3 juvenile Greenland Whitefronts amongst the few hundred Pinks in the long grass on Marshside shore- showed well, including in flight.
Otherwise nothing of any consequence, just a Merlin and 3 or 4 egrets. Goose count tomorrow, so I'll post the result when I have it.

Thanks Derek - I'm guessing the number of Pinkies will be down tomorrow, as they head to Norfolk for beet munching duties....
