A few minutes on Ainsdale beach late this afternoon, as the sun sank behind the clouds.
Predictably poor light so pix were particularly poo, but a few Grey Plover about (all looking soulful and lonely), Oystercatchers, Sanderling and small roosts of the commoner species of gulls.
Offshore was murky as hell - I'm not surprised seawatching wasn't so good earlier in the week if conditions were like this, but it did get me thinking about the advantages of dusk birding - not too many birds to worry about, no complications when taking a pic 'cos the light's so bad, and in the right locations (admittedly abroad) all the Nightjars you can shake a stick at.
Top marks go to the Nocturnal Birders Club member who found the Eagle Owl on Wirral this week...I guess it was pretty dark on North Uist for today's Mourning Dove too (check out Terry Fountain's pics here ).
Best of all as a Nocturnal Birder, you get some lovely sunsets....
Roll on the return of British Summer Time.

All the usual stuff plus Green Winged Teal showing very well outside the Sandgrounders hide and a single Curlew presumed to be a juv, smallish bill, finer streaks and more buffish brown.
I wonder if this is the same Green Winged Teal we had last year?
Nels hide had all the usual stuff and 20 Ruff and 1 Snipe.
Lots of Mipits and Goldfinch overhead and a Greater Black Backed Gull causing havoc with the godwits.
