Thanks to Tropical Thomason who sent me these shots of a Sprawk in his garden - doing what they do best...

"Was wonderin why all was quiet on the bird table lately, thought me nuts had gone off, when I espied this young b.....r at the top of me eucalyptus tree.
No doubt he'll be back as all the local birds know only the finest seeds and freshest nuts are served at Tropical Towers.
Oh the price of running a gormet table," explains Tropical.

Indeed Trops!
A much damper Sprawk was around Dempsey Towers at the weekend, being blown about at the top of a Poplar.
It looked mighty indignant after a good drenching, but it's intentions were much the same as Tropical's bird....Sprawk snacks were on the menu.

Ah, I love the smell of wet Sparrowhawk in the morning...to paraphrase that well-known birding war film, "Accipiter Now."

Here's hoping the winds'll drop and it'll stay dry long enough for a bit of non-garden birding soon.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Decent count of 1130 Coot but only 151 Mute Swans on the Marine Lake on Wednesday.
Also 7 Goldeneye.
Can anyone beat the record figures of 1299 Coot and 260 Mute Swans?

Hi,
I am a birding blogger from Sri Lanka -

Could we exchange links ?

John - Pleased to have made your aquaintance on Ainsdale Beach looking at the Snow Buntings.
Regarding Phil Smith's record Coot numbers on Southport Marine Lake, I'm afraid I can't beat them but here is the WeBs count figures recorded today if anyone's interested.

Little Grebe 5
Great Crested Grebe 1
Cormorant 11
Grey Heron 1
Mute Swan 195
Greylag Goose 6
Canada Goose 7
Mallard 101
Goldeneye 14
Moorhen 9
Coot 1052
Oystercatcher 1
Redshank 1
Black Swan 2
Feral/Dom Goose 1

Thanks Ralph - good to hear the Goldeneye numbers are climbing again on the Marine Lake.
If anyone else wants to stick some WeBs counts stuff in, feel free.
