The idea of looking for Wheatears as a sharp snow shower blasted across Marshside One this afternoon summed the day up; still too cold!
A few small gull roosts on Marshside One and at least 40-50 Avocets.
More were feeding in front of the Sandgrounders Hide.

Duck numbers right down now, but still a few herds of Wigeons about.
Black Tailed Godwits getting more vocal, and a light passage of Meadow Pipits north, with one or two Pied Wags too.

I notice Graham has put fresh shell shingle on the islands and around the Sandplant lagoon for nesting waders - it already has the approval of at least one Oystercatcher.

Two Little Grebes and a few Tufties and Pochards on their still, plus a female Ruddy Duck (see top pic) - good to see one back.
A wander round Mount Baker and the Peninsula was a bracing experience, but not many passerines about - two male Stonechats still feeding in the tidal debris, giving a further opportunity to take more Stonechat porn.

If only all birds were this obliging.
751 Golden Plover and a few Ruff in with them at the top of Marshside One - some of the Goldies are now in full summer plumage.
Very nice they are too.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

John,
Your pictures are so beautiful, and I am green with envy over the stunning shots of the Avocet.
I have yet to see one, and they are at the top of my wish list along with Black-Necked Stilt.
Waterbirds are my favorites, along with raptors and backyard birds and.... I would love to get to England someday.
Keeping my fingers crossed and pennies in my piggy bank. Thank you for your lovely site!
